Ahavat Israel: Why should we 'treat others as we'd like to be treated'?
- A presentation given at the 2018 Project SEARCH Conference, discussing strategies for teaching adults with autism and related disabilities job skills while promoting generalization. Strategies included utilizing family involvement, the mentorship program, and leisure engagement to practice skills learned in the training room, such as emailing and scheduling meetings.
Setting Appropriate Expectations
- A portion of a training given to parents and caregivers of adults with autism spectrum disorder about the importance and impact of setting appropriate expectations and how to do so
Strategies for Successful Participation
- A portion of a training given to the David Posnack Jewish Community Center to help their staff understand how to create programs for and support individuals with autism spectrum disorder
- The presentation covered the importance of person-environment fit, environmental strategies, developing routines, how to best give instructions and prompt individuals, and finding the just-right challenge
Occupational Therapy: What is it?
- A presentation created for those who are unaware of occupational therapy and are interested in the medical profession or would benefit from understanding OT's unique role within the profession
- I have given this presentation to:
- Undergraduates majoring in psychology or a related field
- Graduate Neuropsychology students
What is Occupational Therapy?
- Another student and I gave a presentation to a 4th grade class about occupational therapy (OT). It included an introduction to what are occupations, what do OTs do, how do OTs help people, who do OTs help, and other related information.
- We also provided a brief hands-on session to adaptive equipment and transfers.
Occupational Therapy: What we do and when to refer
- As part of series of lunch talks given to students at the Washington University School of Medicine (WUSM), I represented my program and gave the lunch talk about Occupational Therapy
- I spoke about what occupational therapists (OTs) do, the model used at WUSM, with who and where OTs work, and how they assist individuals
Interacting with Families and Caregivers
- As part of a course for 1st year occupational therapy students titled "Fundamentals of Professional Communication," I gave a 30 minute presentation on why, when, and how to interact with families and caregivers.
Ahavat Israel: Why should we 'treat others as we'd like to be treated'?
- In Judaism, the Torah commands Jews to treat others as they would like to be treated. What does it mean to 'treat others as we'd like to be treated'? Why is this something that needs to be outwardly stated? How does this pertain to our lives?
- I have presented this topic to different groups of college aged adolescents; however, this presentation can be given to all ages.
